About YIMBY Latino
YIMBY Latino started in 2023 from Latinos in YIMBY Action. It is a group of pro-Housing activists that self-ids as Latino, Latina, Latinx, YIMBY or all of the above. Our motto is "¡Sí En Mi Barrio!", a Spanish version of Yes in My Backyard (YIMBY).
We encourage to welcome more Neighbors in our Latino/a/x Neighborhoods. Welcoming Refugees, Immigrants & all Newcomers with homes. A Latino-led YIMBY Action chapter.
YIMBYs have experienced housing struggles that are all too common:
- Living in overcrowded homes
- Struggling to find a home that fits their budget
- Moving far away from work or their community to find affordable housing
- Having friends and family move away to find affordable housing
- Commuting for hours a day
- Spending years on waitlists for income-qualified housing
- Homelessness
For many, becoming a YIMBY is a way to try to fix the systemic problems that have affected them personally.
How we work
Reform the rules
Back zoning reform and streamlined permitting so more homes are legal to build, especially near transit and jobs.
Educate & engage
Turn out residents to the meetings that matter and make it easy to take a pro-housing position on local projects.
Build partnerships
Work with neighbors, labor, faith groups, and builders toward a shared abundant-housing agenda.
YIMBY Latino is a chapter of YIMBY Action.
One of the local groups organizing for more homes across the country, backed by the national team.
